NYSERNet Moves the Needle on Routing Integrity: Implementing Peer-Facing RPKI Route Origin Validation February 16, 2023

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Routing integrity is an end-to-end challenge that requires the participation of the entire Internet2-networked community and beyond.

So, what does that mean? It’s in everyone’s best interest to work together to ensure our research and education (R&E) networks are protected from common routing threats that impact security and resiliency. The path forward to strong routing integrity requires collaboration, and the benefits ripple far beyond any one network’s border.

MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGE FINALIST February 16, 2023

MOREnet and CYBER.org partnered for the 2023 Missouri High School Cybersecurity Challenge. DESE provided funding so that districts could compete at no coast as part of the MOREnet / DESE computer science partnership. The initial round was held January 17-19. Students from 50 teams and 22 Missouri school districts solved challenges involving encryption, science, networking, cybersecurity, trivia, programming, history, and open-source intel.

The top scoring teams will be invited to Columbia on February 21, 2023 to compete in the finals as part of the Technical Training Summit(opens in new window). During the finals the students will solve cybersecurity challenges in CYBER.org’s Cyber Range.

Wewoka Public Schools Advances Technology Initiatives Post Pandemic to Better Serve the District and Meet Educational Goals February 16, 2023

Wewoka Public Schools has implemented new initiatives since the COVID pandemic to meet the needs of students and teachers in the district. Technological advancements within the district include providing one device per student for grades K-12. This is an upgrade from the one device per student for just grades 9-12 previously. The district will soon expand to two Chromebook devices per student in grades 1-8. Students in those grades will have both take-home devices and classroom devices. The new changes will also increase device lifespan and eliminate issues in the classroom by increasing the availability of devices.

Other exciting news from the school district includes the selection of 30 Wewoka teachers to receive grants from the Oklahoma State Department of Education that will help improve student instruction, behavior, skills and mental health. This provides new resources for the district and aids in positive student development for the future.
