FREE REGISTRATION

Join us for an in-person, free 1.5-day workshop designed to enable smaller institutions of higher education including those in rural and socioeconomically areas to strengthen their resources, such as people, training, network, compute, storage, and external internet connected resources, that support STEM education and research priorities. Collectively, these types of resources are referred to as cyberinfrastructure or CI. This workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Why It Matters

Smaller and mid-sized institutions often face challenges accessing cyberinfrastructure resources. This workshop is designed to break down those barriers, provide practical strategies, and build regional connections that will help you bring meaningful change to your campus.

Workshop Focus

This highly interactive workshop will help you:

  • Understand what cyberinfrastructure is—and why it matters for your institution’s teaching, research, and strategic goals
  • Explore real-world use cases and existing programs on your campus that support access to CI
  • Learn about funding programs and strategies for your campus CI goals
  • Identify regional CI collaborators who can help your campus scale your CI services efficiently using low-cost or no-cost resources
  • Take part in hands-on exercises tailored to common campus challenges

Who Should Attend

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Senior level campus IT professionals and other technology leaders
  • Research and academic administrators and sponsored programs staff
  • STEM faculty and researchers who rely on or want to expand access to compute, data, and high-capacity networking

Travel Support

Thanks to support from the NSF, to cover participation costs for up to 45 individuals. Travel assistance includes:

  • Reimbursement for two nights of lodging (up $172/night and not more than $344 total for two nights including fees and taxes).
  • A $96 stipend to help offset additional travel costs
  • Financial support is limited to two participants per institution

The Quilt will reimburse lodging expenses for workshop participants up to $172/night including fees and taxes, and not more than $344 total for two nights including fees and taxes. Reimbursement will not be provided for any hotel incidentals. For hotel reimbursement, please send an electronic copy of your hotel invoice to contact@thequilt.net within 10 business days of the conclusion of the workshop.

Travel Stipend

A $96 per participant travel stipend is available to help offset additional travel expenses such as airline, car rental, gas and mileage, or meals, or other expenses related to your participation. You will be asked during registration if you would like to receive this stipend. If yes, we will need your name, mailing address, email, and mobile number to process your stipend. Stipends are only available to those who participate in both days of the workshop. A check will be sent to you after the workshop to the mail address you provide.

Agenda Highlights

  • Day 1: CI 101, funding overviews, case studies, identifying campus education and STEM science drivers, and an interactive group exercise
  • Evening: Informal networking reception and breakout discussions
  • Day 2: Campus CI plans and additional hands-on sessions based on participant interests. Please share your interests with us ahead of the workshop through this very brief survey.
