ADVA Named A Preferred Optical Vendor by The Quilt
Company supports build-out of high-capacity infrastructure for research
networks of the future
Mahwah/New Jersey, USA, and Martinsried/Munich, Germany. September 19,
2005. ADVA Optical Networking today announced it has been accepted as a
preferred vendor of optical networking equipment in The Quilt's Vendor
Information Exchange (VIX) program. The Quilt is a U.S.-based coalition
of advanced regional networking organizations in the research and
education sectors.
ADVA is the first optical solutions provider to be selected for The
Quilt's VIX program. ADVA will offer The Quilt members its Fiber Service
Platform (FSP) 2000 and 3000 devices, which deliver high-speed services
and network infrastructure to the metropolitan area. The FSP 2000 and
3000 enable deployment of Coarse and Dense Wavelength Division
Multiplexing (C/DWDM) systems, providing high bandwidth and flexibility
to organizations at an attractive price point.
"ADVA's Optical+Ethernet networking solutions enable universities,
enterprises and carriers to offer competitive services and applications
with a low total cost of ownership, independent of the existing network
infrastructure," stated Hudnall Croasdale, executive director of The
Quilt. "ADVA's products are characterized by their extreme flexibility
and scalability, two critical requirements for success in this market
sub-segment. To meet the regional network requirements of our members,
ADVA offers an excellent best-of-breed, high-speed networking solution."
The Quilt membership consists of 23 research and education networking
organizations that include more than 200 universities and research
institutions across the United States. Member organizations are involved
in leading research projects that span the range of advanced scientific
and technological subjects. Driving heavy demand for bandwidth via
applications like grid and cluster computing, The Quilt members require
low latency, high security and high reliability from the networks that
connect them. Fiber optic networks promise relief for these constraints.
"Research and technical universities today require big pipes," confirmed
Brian P. McCann, ADVA's chief marketing and strategy officer. "These
organizations are quickly moving from 1 Gig to 10 Gig infrastructures,
based on their need for higher capacity to run data-intensive
applications and research projects. Through this relationship with The
Quilt, ADVA is providing access to critical network solutions at special
pricing rates. We are pleased to offer technologies that help build the
infrastructure today that will meet the needs of this critical industry
for the next decade."
ADVA's full FSP portfolio includes products that enable leading
technologies like CWDM, DWDM and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM. The
FSP systems enable up to 512 applications ranging from speeds of 8Mbit/s
to 10Gbit/s to be transported over a single fiber pair more than 600
kilometers. The ADVA portfolio includes the FSP 150, FSP 1500, FSP 2000,
FSP 3000 and FSP Management Suite.
