Workshop

The Quilt, in conjunction with
OSHEAN, held its third Fiber Workshop in Newport, Rhode Island.
Several vendors of interest to the community presented new products,
services and applications for R&E. The workshop focused on topics
associated with optical network testing, transitioning from Layer 1 to Layer
3, optical network management tools, and connecting to optical

Presentations from
the first day included lessons learned in optical network
deployment and demonstrations of vendor and homegrown network
management tools. On Thursday, a summary of the recently
distributed Group A Report was presented. There was also a
discussion on alien waves and RON to RON connections. On
the last day, representatives of several RON’s provided progress
updates and participants were provided with an overview of
international connections and their applications.
