Quilt Regional Optical Networking Workshop

The Quilt, in conjuction with Fiber Co, will be hosting a Regional Optical Networking Workshop, on 21-23 June in Broomfield, Colorado, which is outside of Boulder. The Workshop is focused on providing detailed information to Quilt Participants, their members and other R&E Institutions involved and interested in building, managing and connecting to Metro or Regional Optical Networking infrastructure. The Workshop will concentrate on three main areas: Strategy and Procurement; Fiber Aquisition; and Technical Implementation. The Workshop will include presentations, case studies, and panel discussions. Specific Topics will include:

Strategy and Procurement

  • Finding the Fiber
  • Components and Costs of Ownership
  • Experience with Fiber Vendors (panel discussion)

Fiber Aquisition

  • Elements of a good RFP
  • Contractual Issues
  • Operations and Maintenance Issues
  • Lessons Learned (panel discussion)

Technical Implementation

  • Technical design
  • Lateral Builds - Getting to the Fiber
  • Acceptance Testing
  • Lighting Strategies
  • Experience with Equipment Vendors (panel discussion)

Additional Activities

  • Tour of Level 3 NOC and Lab

The registration fee for this Workshop is $100.

No
payments will be accepted at the meeting. All payments must be received by the Internet2 office no later than 5:00pm eastern time on Monday June 14.

There will be a reception, sponsored by The Quilt and FiberCo, Monday evening from 5:15 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Level 3 will have tours of their NOC and their lab available during the lunch breaks on Tuesday and Wednesday, capacity will be limited, and there will be a sign up sheet available at the registration desk.
