The Quilt's 2006 Fall Workshops

St. Louis, Missouri

The Quilt is holding two workshops in St. Louis this fall as adjunct events to the NANOG meeting in St. Louis the same week. By holding these workshops adjacent to NANOG38, The Quilt hopes its workshop participants will have the opportunity to participate in the technical and operational dialogue of the NANOG sessions which will cover the latest technical issues facing the network operator community.

For more information on the NANOG38, please see http://www.nanog.org/.

Peering Workshop

October 11-12, 2006

The Quilt will host its first Peering Workshop October 11-12, 2006.  The focus of this workshop will be to educate Quilt members and Quilt member participants on the different facets of peering and provide updates on the current state of national R&E peering efforts.  It will begin with a basic overview on the topic and then dive deeper into the technical, administrative and financial aspects of peering.  This discussion will be followed by updates on national R&E network commercial/commodity peering strategies and how to leverage these strategies to benefit the R&E community.  The Quilt has distributed a comprehensive peering survey to its members and affiliates.  Results of the survey will be presented at the workshop and will be made available on-line to Quilt members.  This session will end with a transition topic of current optical peering/bilateral exchange projects which will lead into the topics of the Fiber Workshop.

Fiber Workshop

October 12-13, 2006

The Quilt, will be hosting its fifth Fiber Workshop October 12-13, 2006.  This workshop is a continuation of the series of workshops The Quilt has offered on topics associated with building, managing and connecting to a Metro or Regional Optical Networking (RON) Infrastructure.  The agenda for this workshop will begin after lunch on October 12, 2006 with a discussion on the various service delivery options available for RON’s to provide connectivity to campuses.  The remaining portion of the workshop will include a panel discussion on Common RON Business Models as well as the topics of GigaPoP reliability and capacity planning at Layers 1 and 2.
