Telepresence Working Group
The Quilt Telepresence Working Group aims to help Quilt members better understand and leverage telepresence technologies, including ultra high-definition video and other open, virtual presence capabilities. Working Group participants exchange information and experiences with the procurement and deployment of telepresence systems on regional research and education (R&E) networks, enabling them to make more informed choices with respect to telepresence service options.
Goals of the Working Group include:
- Identifying common standards and best practices to integrate telepresence capabilities into regional and campus networks
- Collaborating with Internet2 and NLR to test and operationalize an open virtual presence capability across the R&E space
- Encouraging R&E telepresence users to register their units on the public telepresence directory, making it easier for R&E, corporate and government telepresence users to find each other and collaborate
- Collecting and reporting on telepresence-related data from The Quilt membership
